GISBORNE CLUB. Throe games in the Champion Cup competition, took place on the Gisborne Chili’s green yesterday afternoon, and produced some very interesting play. This avrs especially the case in that in Avliieh W. Pettie defeated J. J’. Martin by the narrowest possible margin, scoring' 1 16 points to his opponent’s 15. Martin made three points mil Iho first two lieads. Pott/ then scored for seven heads in succession. gaining 9 points. An interchange of scoring folknved, and on the 19th head Martin gained 4 by a piece of good fortune. He Avas lying two. Pettie, Avlio had three boivk behind the jack, drove, in the hope of taking the jack to them. Instead, he took out his own hall, which Avas third shot, and left Martin lying four. On the final head, the score being 15 all, Martin Avas lying two, but Pettie managed to draiv the shot, thus avinning bv a single point. Ponsford beat Corson by six points, the scores being 20 to 14. Corson Avent .away with'the lead, scoring 7 to 2 on the first seven heads. Ponsford then. in succession, gained tivo threes, a two. and three singles/ raising his score to 13. Interchange of scoring folloAA'od, generally in favor of Ponsford, Avho put in’ four on the, 20th head and gained a lead of nine points. Corson, hoivevcr, cut this doAvn by making three on the final bead. , J. J. Martin defeated Williams by 21 to 17. He scored on the first five heads, putting up a score of 12. V’hams then began to score, and on the 171 li head had made 15 to las antagonist’s 18. In the remaining heads Martin put up a single and a two, while Williams responded noth a couple of .'ingles; the former ivmnimr bv four points.
