HOPES OF EXTINGUISHING THE - FIRE. [Press Association.] WESTPORT, March 4. At Mine Creek air compressors were put into operation this morning to drive steam into the mine, and it is stated that no smoke was noticed to emerge, leading to the belief that the fire has been extinguished. Some 30 men are still at Mil!erton ; hut many are leaving to-day, as they consider it mill -be at least six weeks before mining is resumed, even if the fir© is out. '
