LOCAL CRICKET. No matches were played in the Saturday competition on Saturday, owing to Te Ran having forfeited to Taruheru, and the local Cricket Association having awarded tlie match between United and Wanderers to tlie latter team. The only game played was between Y.M.C.A. and Gisborne School teams, which resulted in a win for the former. Barker, who hails from Blenheim, made a first appearance in Gisborne, and did good service in all departments of the game for Y.M.C.A.. and should prove a valuable acquisit:nn to local cricket.' The school boys played up well against their older opponents, and many of 'the lads gave promise of developing into, good players. The hon. secretary of the Poverty Bay Cricket Association (Mr. G. H. Rose) has received advice from Air. A. AI. Howden, of Auckland, that the team he is bringing down to Gisborne will arrive here on April 7th. The team will be a strong one, and will include six players who have represented Auckland. The following are certainties for the trip:—A. AI. Howden, E. V. Sale, J. M. Hussey, E. The latter made 264 (Blamires 103 and Hopkins 63), and 57 for two wickets. Albion defeated Carisbrook B by 56 runs on the first innings. The former made 200 (AleEarlane 110) and 230 for seven wickets (AlcFarlane 126 not out), and Carisbrook made 144 in tlie first innings.
