HOCKEY.

POVERTY BAY HOCKEY ASSOCIATION. At the annual meeting of the above Association this evening the following report will be presented: “Your delegates have much pleasure in presenting to you the annual report and balance-sheet, and in doing so desire to state that the past season has been a very successful one. Great interest and enthusiasm was shown bv players and the public in the game. The contests for the championship were fairly evenly contested, but- in the finish it was easily seen that the final was to be between West End and Kia Ivalia. the former winning this game by one to nil, thus winning the shield with 21 points to Kia Kalia’s 17. Representative matches: Our representative team made their annual visit to Hawke’s Bay, and played Hawke’s Bay and Hastings, each game resulting in a draw. The following were our representatives: Bright, Tabernacle, McLean, Olsen, Roderick, Sim, Doyle, Pollock, Woodward, Bull, Armstrong (captain). Nelson visited us on their way home from Auckland, and played one game, in which our representatives were successful. We did not have an op-portunit-y of playing Auckland for the Championship Shield, which is still held by that Association, but if we had wo would have mado a good show against them, and wo hope this year to send a team up there to carry away tho shield. During the season the Association procured a shield for competition, which gives a great deal more interest in the games. This at present is held by the. president of the West End Club. The main business this season is to get a ground big enough to play three matches on, as there will he -at least six men’s teams, and it would be almost impossible to play all the matches on the ground of the Domain. The finances are iii about tho same state as at the end of last year, our balance being £1- 3s 4d, but this may be deemed satisfactory as wo bad a great deal or expense during the season. The thanks of the Association are due to the referees, umpires, press, players, and public who supported us last season.” Y.M.C.A. TEAM. At a meeting of members of the Young Men’s Christian Association held last night it was decided to form

a hockey club. Officers were elected as follows: —President, Air, E. H. Mann ; vice-presidents, -Messrs A, R, Gat’and and J. C. E. Kissling; comaiittee, Alessrs Auld, Pini Taraahori, Sveress, Quigley, and Barker. It vas thought that a good side could be got together, several leading play;rs having promised support.
