VISIT OF DR. MASON. PUBLIC MEETING TO BE"'HELD. The .Chief Health Officer (Dr. J. M. Mason) with the District Health Officer (Dr. DeLisle) arrived in Gisborne yesterday morning to inquire into the cause of the epidemic of-enteric in the district. On arrival they were met by Cr. Pettie and the Town Clerk (Mr R. D. B. Robinson) and had a short conversation .as to the methods to ffie adopted to fight the disease. In the afternoon Drs. Mason and DeLisle visited the various houses where typhoid cases have occurred, and the premises were closely inspected, and they will continue tlieir inspection or the town to-day. , •• After the day’s work the Unei Health Officer called upon His Worship the Mayor (Mr. W. D. Lysnar), who though he was ill, discussed the wh'oie question of drainage for over an hour. When seen by a Times reporter, Dr. Mason said he was anxious to ascertain the cause of the spread of enteric in Gisborne, and he had asked Or. Pettie, in the absence oi the Mayor, to call a meeting of the Council for Thursday evening to discuss the question,-and had also suggested that a public meeting should be Sailed for Friday evening,, at which he would be prepared to address the householders on the question as to how best to fight the disease, and to speak of the best means for improving the sanitation of the town. ~ _ . Dr. Mason will leave for Auckland on Saturday to meet the Hon. D. Bucldo. They intend to visit the Waikato sanatorium, near Cambridge, and the camp which Dr. Mason has instituted for conumptives who have been cured. It is understood that there is a possibility of the sc3^“ e being enlarged so as to afford accommodation ior all cured consumptives who are unable to find woik other w-ise. This will enable such persons to make a living amid surroundings which will conduce to the permanence of their cure-. The Chief Health Officer intends to visit every house in this district in which a case of entenc has occurred. . , , ~ - A public meeting is to be held in His Majesty’s Theatre at 8j p.ni. tomorrow, when Dr, Mason will -addres. the burgesses, and His Worship the Mayor will take the chair.
