MEMBERSHIP CAMPAIGN. The “Reds” and the “Blues/ commenced their battle yesterday m the membership campaign, and the eat y stages of the contest have been full of exciting incidents. The conditions of the contest provided that no members should he canvassed until the 10th inst.. and it is reported that one enterprising “Blue” commenced at midnight and woke from his slumbers a gentleman the “Reels’’ were re yino- on for assistance. This manoeuvie has enlisted for the “Blues” an energetic worker. The preliminary skirmishes showed that the leaders had made careful plans for then operations. At an early hour telephones and bicycles ivere set in motion and numbers were waited on before breakfast and urged to become either a “Red” or a “Blue.”, During the .morning the “Reds issued an ex rta ” announcing that* their cvclo corps had won a victory, and it is rumored that the lad employed to circulate these was waylaid by a “Blue” and his ammunition confiscated. At noon it was found that the “Blues” had gained one more member than their opponents, and accoiuingly a blue flag was hoisted over the Association’s new rooms. The Reds are anxious to have their colors up, and it was reported last night t-ly* established a. lead. . The campaign promises to ho more interesting- as it proceeds, and the best generalship ot the captains, Messrs Elinor and Dawson, will be put into tho contest so that, if possible, their men will not be among the. “porridge eaters..
