DUNEDIN, March 21
At a conference of delegates representing Otago, Wellington, Southland, Canterbury, and Auckland, held on Saturday night, the. split in the amateur athletic circles was fully discussed. A motion was put forward that the conference pledge itself to abide by the result of the appeal to tlie Australasian Athletic Union. Several amendments were proposed, and an agreement was eventually arrived at by which the conference decided to call upon the executives stationed in Christchurch and Wellington to resign. The various delegates pledged themselves to give allegiance to a council to be elected on a fresh election, on tho basis of a constitution altered to meet the. views ot the majority of the conference. The chairman of the Otago Centre (Air J B. Cullan) and the secretary (Mr' Willett-) were appointed a temporary executive to carry on the affaus of the Association, and accept liommations for a new council within u 0 days. It was resolved: (1) That next athletic championship meeting he he.d at Auckland; (2) that a selection committee consisting of five representatives (one from each centre) be appointed to in future select Australasian championship teams; (3) that it be a recommendation to the incoming council that New Zealand champion shield points be scored by :first and second men only, two points being allotted to the. first and one to the second; (4) that Wellington he the headquarters of the Association; (5) to secede from the New Zealand Sports Federation.
AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP MEETING.
DUNEDIN, March 20. _ The New Zealand Amateur Atluetic Association’s championship meeting was held on the Caledonian Grounds to-day. Light rain fell at intervals, but the weather was not cold. The heavy showers of the previous day and night left the track heavy, so that no exceptional~~feats were looked for. There, was an attendance of about 3000 persons.
