SALE OF SUBURBAN LANDS. There was only a fair attendance of buyers at His Majerty’e Theatre on Saturday morning, when Messrs Williams and Kettle, in conjunction with Mr. H. E. Dodd, submitted Mr. J. T. Griffin’s suburban property of Kirktown extension No. “3 to public auction. The property is about two miles from town, and has been subdivided into mostly quarter-acre sections. The result was exceedingly disappointing to the vendor, the audience apparently considering that the reserve was rather beyond present values. Mr. G. R. Wyllie officiated as auctioneer, and started with lot 1, a quarter-acre section on the corner of WliataupokoOrniond road and Valley read. Bidding started at- £SO. and advanced to £6l. Although pressed the owner adhered to his reserve, and the lot was passed in. Lot- 17, adjoining passed in without a bid. An offer of £SO, increasing to £6O, was made for lot 2. also a quarter acre, whilst lots 14 and 15 were also passed at £SO, lot 19 at £46, and let 20~at £45. As bidding was very slow, Air. Wyllie announced that he would dispose of the sections at 75 per cent of their value, and section 21, quarter-acre, went to Mrs. Hogan at £53. Further efforts, however, proved unavailing, and Mr. A. F. Kennedy ultimately announced that it was apparently no use proceeding. Reasonable upset prices had been fixed, from which the owner was unwilling to recede, and they would be pleased to dispose of the sections privately. Within ten minutes after the auction sale-imi sections we re sold, as follows : Sections ’IS, 19, and 20, £6O, £55, and £55, Mrs. Hogan ; sections 43 and 64, £4O each. J. G.
