- ; . \ WHATAUPOKO CLUB. Saturday being the closing day of the Whataupoko and the fact that the prizes won during the. season were to be presented, caused a large attendance at the courts. In Gentlemen's Singles,-A. G. Matthews (50) beat G, L. -Margoliouth (scr) by 100 to 93, after a very exciting game. The scratch man caught his opponent at 95, but failed to win the match. The results in the Ladies’ Singles were.—A grade: Miss N. Davies beat Miss Coleman (60—42); B grade : Miss Bull beat Miss Lewis (60 —58). At the conclusion of the games the president of the. club (Mr. Barker) declared the courts closed to allow of some necessary improvements • being made. He then presented the prizes as follows: — Gent’s Handicap Singles: Mr. E. G. Matthews, silver flask, presented by the . president ;■ Ladies Singles (A grade): -Miss N. Davies, gold medal, presented by the president; (B grade): Miss Bull, silver manicure set, presented by Mr. V. Barker ; Miss Lewis, runneivup in this match, was presented with a pair of cut-glass .vases; Combined Doubles: Miss D. Black, cut-glass! jar and .silver trinket tray, and Mr. Mann, silver shaving mug. ■ GISBORNE CLUB. In the Combined Doubles at the Gisborne Club, Mr. C. L. Margoliouth and Miss Bright defeated Mr. and Mrs. Barlow by two points, after a very exciting game.
