JAPAN AND AUSTRALASIA
The Japanese are a disciplined race, and they are growing in numbers and "in wealth. Their country is' too small for them, and in years to:come they will surely move southwards to find ail outlet for tlieir surplus humanity; (.'"We are told that their agents are even now spying out the. country in the north of Australia, and the pushing people: must ..cast envious eyes on the vast unused continent. Manchuria will never satisfy so ambitious a race. America is closed to them. It is impossible to resist the conclusion that the-Japanese will ultimately look upon Australasia as a suitable field for colonisation. These colonies, if they desire to retain their nationality, - must attract white population and they must be adequately defended, and though the coming of the Japanese may seem a distant prospect now is not too soon to establish, an efficient system of defence.—“Lyttelton Times.”
