WELLINGTON, April 19. The High Commissioner reports as under, dated! London, 17th: The mutton market is quiet, but there is a better demand on account of low prices. Canterbury light weight is scracc at 3ld, heavy weight is pie fill at 2|d: North Island light weight 2|d, heavy weights 2ld. The lamb marget is steady and fair business is doing. Stocks on hand are heavy ; 05,463 lambs arrived during the week from the Argentine, and are selling at 3*d. Canterbury lamb is at 42c1; other than Canterbury 3|d. The beef market is weak and inactive. Hindquarters 3§d, forequarters 2-Id. There is a better demand for butter. The market is steady., and holders are firm. The prospects are uncertain. Choicest New Zealand at 100 s. Danish 108 s, Argentine 98s, Siberian 88s, Australian 975. The cheese market is steady, but without animation; white sold at 60: and colored at 635. The hemp market is very quiet, anc transactions moderate. Good fail grade 011 spot £23 os; fair grade or spot £22: fair current Manila on sum ; April-June shipments, good uu: grade £23, fair grade £2l 10?, : A rent Manila £2l 10s. ilic Amnl-a cut put was 20,000 bales. ; There is a better demand for eceks foot, and there are light stocks ci hands. Bright, clean 171 b seed is a‘ 82s. w . ■ . The wool market remains firm. Brad ford tops are quoted as follows: 06 i (low eross-breds) 114 cl, 40’s (low cross breds) Is Old. 50’s (half-breds) Is old 56’s (quarter-breds) Is Bi, 60 a (met inos) 2s Id. The hop market is dull, and like!; to continue so. , h The grain market is firm with a: upward tendency. The oat marke remains firm, and the prospects ar favorable. New Zealand oats, shot sparrow-bils. ex granary, on spot, pc quarter of 384IbSj Nevr Zoalan* oats, Danish, ex granary, on spot, pe quarter of 3201b5, 21s 6d.
