THE COMMONWEALTH NAVY

A FLOTILLA OF DISTROYERS.

ADMIRAL POORE'S VIEW

United Press Association —Copyright.

SYDNEY, April 21

Speaking before the St. George’s Society, Admiral Poore said ho had come to the conclusion for many reasons that a flotilla of destroyers would be of tremendous advantage to Australia, not only for their actual fighting value, but for the moral effect if iu case of war the Imperial squadron had to be withdrawn. He, however, advocated Imperial control, for he regarded dual control as dangerous.

Lord Dudley re-echoed the Admiral s views. He said ho did not believe they would ever induce th country to give an adequate monetary contribution to ihe Imperial Navy, The present amount -was a mere drop in the bucket. It would, be necessary to give two or three millions. It was not likely’ they would be able to give that sum without obtaining what was impossible, a voice in the management or control of the policy. He believed they would get tar move from this country .in the way of ships and men.
