THE ACTION! OF SIR THOMAS BENT. MAKES .PAYMENTS WITHOUT COVERNAIENT AUTHORITY. United Press Association —Copyright MELBOURNE, April 24. The committee on public accounts of the Legislative Assembly to inquire into the action of Sir Thomas Bent, when Treasurer, in paying salaries and other accounts for December against Parliamentary authority, reports that the payments wore made without warrant of the Government. As the supplies voted by Parliament were exhausted the Government could not issue a. warrant. The committee recommend legislative measures on Canadian lines, providing for penalties against the Treasurer or officers signing orders for payment without the authority of Parliament.
