MAT AW HERO STOCK SALES. The stock market at Matawhero yesterday was a little more buoyant than it has been during the past few weeks, and sheep ruled at improved values all round. There was a good attendance of buyers and bidding was brisk for the pens that showed any quality. The effect of the firm price of wool was easily noticeable and sheep showing any growtli at all, brought good competition. Hoggets were in demand, and wethers fully maintained recent rates. The quality of the sheep on sale looked well and showed -that there is still’ plenty of feed about. Cattle did not bring big prices, but the quality of the yarding was not the best, prime fat stock being entirely absent. . SHEEP. The total quantity of sheep on offer was about 4000, the wether pens being fairly numerous. Fat sheep saw fair competition. Fifteen fat wethers sold Gd, 40 forward 2-tooth wethers at9s, 57 fat ewes at 9s, and 2S forward empty ewes at' Bs. In store sheep the prices varied according to quality. Wethers sold as nigh as 10s for a nicepen of 2 and 4-tooths, mixed, and a well-conditioned lot of 750 2-tootlis were cleared at 9s 9d without trouble. Other store wethers sold: 186 2-teotlis at vs4d, 17 big sorts at 9s. while a small pen of well-forwards was withdrawn, after 9s 9d had been offered. -Ewes were scarce, consequent on the time of the year, and the few on sale were not keenly sought after The principal pens were 64 forwards at 6s 6d, 34 2tooths at 6s, and 200 at 3s 3d. and 41 poor sorts at 2s id. Hoggets were yarded in large quantities and woolly sorts brought good prices. 268 forward sorts sold at 6s 7d. 69 at 6s Sd, 229 well-woollcd at 3s 3d, 21 small sorts at 3s lOd, 12 at Is 7d, 58 poor sorts at Is 7d and 101 in moderate condition at 3s Id. CATTLE. The cattle pens held about 400 head, chiefly stores, which sold freely. 3 beef cows brought £3. I forward bullock £3, 2 cows £2, 30 young steers £3 Bs--6d. 19 yearling steers 235. 5 forward bullocks £4 8s 6d, 6 calves £I ?
