DISCOVERER OF THE WELCOME NUGGET. DIES IN A BENEVOLENT ASYLUM. United Press Association— Copyright (Received May 21, 1 a.m.) ... MELBOURNE, May 20. Francis Webster, discoverer of the famous Welcome nugget, lias died in the Ballarat Benevolent Asylum, aged 74. He returned to Ballarat three years ago, poor and in ill-health, and was compelled to seek shelter in tho asylum. [The Welcome nugget, said to be the largest ever found, was discovered at Bakery Hill, Ballarat, in 1838. -It weighed 22170 z 16dwt, and was sold for £10,500.]
