DISSATISFIED RAILWAY SERVANTS.
AN APPEAL TO MEMBERS OF PARLIAMENT. (Per Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, June 7. An emergency meeting of the committee or the Canterbury branch of the Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants, was held yesterday. The chairman stated that the meeting had been called for the purpose of considering what action should be taken in regard to the position in which the railway employees had been .placed through te attitude of the Minister of Railways in vetoing the finding of the South Island Appeal Board in the ease of a train examiner who appealed against his reduction from a higher to a lower grade. A copy of the decision, which had been unanimously agreed to by the members of the Board, and a copy of the letter received from the General Manager of Railways, stating that the minister, after careful consideration, c-ould not see his way to give effect to the Board’s finding, were read. After a long discussion, during which it was stated that the intention of Parliament was being deliberately set aside, it was resolved to forward copies of the Board’ finding and the Minister’s decision to the senior member cf Parliament for Canterbury, with a request that lie should convene a meeting of all members of Parliament interested in railway matters, with the view of having the whole question reviewed by them. It was also resolved to request the General Society to cooperate with the branch.
