DEPARTURE FOR LONDON. (Per Press Association.) . WELLINGTON, Juno 18. Tho Prime Minister, accompanied by Lady Ward and Miss Ward, left by the s.s. Manuka this evening for Sydney, on route for London ,where Sir Joseph Ward attend the Imperial Defence Conference. There was a great crowd to see them of?, variously estimated at from 1500 to 2500 people. A little hostile demonstration took place, but really nothing to speak of ; and it may safely bo said that the Prime Minister was accorded a really hearty send-off. As the Manuka moved off froift the. wharf, a salute was fired from H.M.S. Pioneer, and rockets were discharged from tho Government steamer Tutanekai. FAREWELL MESSAGE FROM GISBORNE In connection with the Prime Minister’s visit to the Imperial Defence Conference, the following telegram wan despatched from Gisborne yesterday by the Mayor:—“On behalf of tho Borough of Gisborne I extend to you the borough’s congratulations on v<mr projected trip to England, feeling sure our. Empire, as a whole will benefit through the great Conference at which we are proud to think this Dominion will be represented by you. We will watch your deliberations with deep interest, and trusting that Lady Ward and yourself will have a pleasant journey and safe return. —W Douglas Lysnar, Mayor.” The following was the reply "received from the Premier: —“Please accept yourself and convey to the Borough Councillors of Gisborne the sincere thanks of Lady Wartf anu myself for your kind congratulations and best •wishes, which are much appreciated.— J. G. Ward.”
