Hall-Jones was among •the. guests at the Queensland dinner. The Earl of Crewe, in proposing the toast of prosperity to the' colony, said he was qnite certain that the same spirit which animated Queensland in -sending troops to South Africa animated the whole Commonwealth to assist in attaining a general scheme of Imperial defence which, while leaving full liberty to the- different parts of the Empire, may produce some systematic ■organised whole.
