The Earl of Crewe, in proposing the toast of prosperity to the' colony, said he was qnite certain that the same spirit which animated Queensland in -sending troops to South Africa animated the whole Commonwealth to assist in attaining a general scheme of Imperial defence which, while leaving full liberty to the- different parts of the Empire, may produce some systematic ■organised whole.
