FIRES AT WESTPORT
SEVERAL BUILDINGS DAMAGED. (Per Press Association.] WETSPORT, July 4. A fire which occurred at 2.15 this morning gutted a tobacconist’s shop in Palmerston Street .occupied by Mr. >Vatts, and owned by Mr. Munson. It also did some damage to the adjoining building, -owned by Mr. Munson, and occupied by Miss Adamson, fruiterer. The building on the other side of Watts’, owned and occupied by Mr. Leaver, saddler, with £2OO worth of new stock, was also damaged. Mr. Munson was insured for £2OO oil each of his buildings, and Mr. Watts- for £3OO on his Stock, Mr. Leaver £3OO on the building and £2OO on the stock. A fire also broke out in the bedroom of Mr. J. Macnamara’s house at the other end of the town, but was extinguished before much damage was done. W. Macnamara, who slept in the room, was almost suffocated by smoke when his brother discovered and extinguished the fire.
