TO BE INVITED TO NEW ZEALAND.
(Per Press Association.' AUCKLAND, July 15
The cabled announcement that Lord Kitchener is coming to Australia at the end of the year has naturallly created considerable interest in local military circles, and speculation was rife as to whether New Zealand would be included in his programme. On Tuesday a deputation of three volunteer officers, representing their respective arms of the service, waited unofficially on -the Hon. Geo. Fowlds, Acting Minister for Defence, and asked that he use his influence with the Government to invite Lord Kitchener to New Zealand. The deputation received a sympathetic hearing. and it was stated persistently in well-informed circles yesterday that an invitation would be sent- to the hero of Khartoum. Mr Fowlds, when interinterviewed by a representative ‘of . the '‘Herald” last evening, Said that nothing liad been 'decided, but that a communication had been sent to the Hon. J. Carroll, Acting Prime Minister, and that Cabinet was now considering the matter. Later. The Government has decided to invite Lord Kitchener to visit New Zealand and give advice on military matters.
