THE REPRESENTATIVE MATCH

Tho following teams have been picked bv Mr. J. J. Martin to play a match this afternoon in view of the proposed visit to Auckland. The shield com-

petition has been postponed: A team. —Goal, Burke; full-backs, Doyle and McLean; halves, Grant, Armstrong, and Bull; forwards, Pine, Pirie, Friar, Ellison, and Hooper. B team. —Goal, J. Coleman; fullbacks, Sim and Barker; halves, ReAvai, Payne, and BrOAvn; forwards, McLachlan, Grinlinton, Roderick, Day, and Pollock.

Emergencies: Stagpoole, Hargreaves, Malloy, and Davy. Messrs Olsen and Garrett’s names are not included, as they will be unable to be present. In vieAV of the ground being required at 3 p.m., for the ladies’ match, the above teams are requested to be ton the ground at 1.45 p.m. sharp.

LADIES’ MATCH. The folloAving team has been picked to represent the Gisborne Ladies’ Hockey Club in their match against the Patutahi ladies on the Domain this afternoon : —Forwards, Misses M. Winter, V. Walters, C. Walters, E. Black, M. Smith; backs, M. Robinson, E. Jones,. M. Moore, D. Osborne, V. McDonald, E. Fromm. Emergencies, N. Cockerill, A. Hird, and E. Wallace.

CIVIL SERVICE (2) v. Y.M.C.A. (1)

A challenge match betAveen Y.M.C.A. and Civil Service was played on the Domain yesterday afternoon. The game, from start to finish, Avas fast and interesting. Some good play was shown on both sides. Up till half-time neither side had seared. In the second spell, however, Civil Service showed up well and, after some neat dribbling, Maher netted the ball. , Almost immediately the Civil Service again attacked, and, at the head of a fine rush, Bristow secured a neat goal. Y.M.C.A. then took their turn, and after some hard battling, Davy was successful in shooting. After this play was even, no further scores being registered. For Y.M.C.A., Auld, Rewai, Brown, and Davy played well; Avhile for Civil Service, Barker, / Nelson, Stagpoole, and Maher showed up conspicuously. Mr. Grenfell (Christchurch) refereed.
