STORMY WEATHER.
OVER A WIDE AREA.
(Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, Aug. 7. A violent thunderstorm passed over eland early last night. It caused serious interruption of telegraph communication between Auckland and Hamilton, some sixteen wires being disconnected. So far no serious damage is reported. PALMERSTON N., August 8.
Heavy rains up to yesterday increased the floods in various parts of the district, and between here and Foxton there is still a large amount of water lying. Dr. Findlay was unable to get through from Feilding to Foxton to open a post office, and had to return to Wellington. The Sanson-Feilding road has been rendered impassable by land slips. The Makino and Mangaone rivers have overflowed their banks. Snow fell yesterday at Feilding and Apiti. The Ruahinog to-day are covered with snow right down to tho base, but the snow is rapidly thawing in the warm sunshine.
FEILDING, Aug. 7. The weather was exceedingly rough last night, thunder and lightening being frequent, with a heavy hailstorm and howling gale. The rivers and streams are flooded. There is more rain to-day. DUNEDIN, Aug. 7. The first snow of the present winter fell at Tapanui to-day. It was light.
