BANK AMALGAMATION. . United Press Association—^-Copyright. LONDON, August 8. Shareholders in' the London and Westminster Bank approved of the terms of amalgamation. AN OPPONENT OF AUSTRALIAN IMMIGRATION. The "Times” has published a letter from Frank Pittock, of Newcastle, New South Wales, opposing emigration to Australia, on the ground that there is no land for immigrants, and that there is lack of employment. QUEENSLAND SHEEP RETURNS. BRISBANE, August 9. The sheep in Queensland number over 20,000,000. EARTHQUAKE RECORDS. MELBOURNE, August 9. Seismograph records at the Observatory disclose that 20 distinct earthtremors were felt in Melbourne between 9.20 and 10 on the evening of the 30th July. There was. a more pronounced shock on the morning of August Ist. [These records are those of the recent earthquake in Mexico.]
-THE LANGTON GRANGE BREAKING UP. (Received August 9, 10.55 p.m.) LONDON, August 9. The s.s. Langton Grange, which went ashore on-the Pembrokeshire coast last week, is breaking up.
RETURN OF A TUG. SYDNEY, August 9. The tug Duckenfield, which went out to assist the Champion to bring the barque Leicester Castle to Sydney, but missed the two vessels, has returned safely.
