LABOR AWARDS.
PENALTIES FOR BREACHES
[Per Press Association.] WELLINGTON, August 12. Judgment was given in the Magistrate’s Court to-day in cases brought against Kirkcaldie and Stains, drapers, by tho Labor Department. Dr. McArthur, S.M., held there had been no breach of .award in not supplying the firm’s restaurant girls with a firee lunch on Saturdays when the premises were closed for the half-holiday. In two other cases the firm were ordered to pay a penalty of £5 on each information for employing Mrs Good as head cook at 30s per week, instead of 355, and for dismissing her. The court held that her services were dispensed with because she was entitled to the benefit of the cooks ’and waiters’ award. A penalty of £1 was imposed in a ease in which Mrs Good was charged with accepting' below the award . wages. Judgment was given for Kirkcaldie and Stains in cases in which the firm was charged with distributing work on the team system.
