THE BUSHFELLING SCHEME.

The Minister* for Lands, seen by a “Post” reporter in regard to the progress of the bushfelling scheme on the Rangitatiu block, AVaitotara, state! that the works were going on satisfactorily. The engineer had-just reported favorably to the Department. The employment of the men working there was showing satisfactory results. Fanaverage wages would be earned, while some camps would do well. It was intended to employ 50 per cent, of the men in clearing and opening read lines after September Ist, with a view to having the block ready for settlement. There had been no complaints. About 16 men had’ left since the commencement, not for reasons in connection with the work. Cabinet had not yet decided whether t-o open the block to settlers in December next or to leave it till February, when, after the burns, it would be sown with grass by the Government-.
