TO-DAY’S MATCHES. The representative match, Poverty Bay v. Wairoa, is to take place at the Victoria Domain to-day. Play is to. begin at 3 p.m. A third-grade match, Y.M.C.A. v. Defence Cadets, -will be played as a “curtain-raiser,” starting at 1.45 p.m. WAIROA v. POVERTY BAY. There is certain to be a large crowd at the Victoria Domain this afternoon to see the representatives of Wairoa and Poverty Bay do battle. An excellent fifteen has been selected to represent Poverty Bay, and the visitors are a strong combination, containing several smart backs and fast and heavy forwards. They will also be further strengthened by the inclusion of several players who were unable to be present to take part in the match on Thursday, when Wairoa so easily defeated Mangatu.
WELLINGTON RUGBY UNION—RESIGNATION OF SELECTION COMMITTEE.
(Per Press Association.? WELLINGTON, August 27. The resignation of the selection committee of the Wellington Rugby Union hsa been received. It is understood to have been occasioned by a desire to pass over two players originally chosen as emergencies, and bring in a third one to fill the vacancy that had arisen. One of the three selectors refused to agree, and this occasioned the resignation of the lot. The management committee of the Union decided to fill the vacancy by appointing the original emergency man It is likely the team for the Southern tour will be selected by the c management committee. NELSON COLLEGE BEATS CHRISTCHURCH HIGH SCHOOL. — CHRISTCHURCH, August 27. Nelson College beat Christchurch Boys’ High School to-day by 8 points to 5 points. V N.S.W.
