The number of messages despatched was 243,922. A FORMER NEW ZEALANDER’S ESTATE. The estate of the late Henry Isaacs, a former Mayor of Auckland, has been sworn for probate at £22,596. An anti-war meeting in Paris in connection with the Trades Union Conference culminated in a free-fight. PRINTING DISPUTE SETTLED. MELBOURNE, Sept. 4 The threatened strike in the printing trade has been amicably arranged, the employers conceding the demand for £3 a week for casual compositors. Other compromises were made on both sides. MAN KILLED BY MACHINERY. A man named Atkins was examining machinery at the Royal Show when his coat caught in the belting and he was whirled round and killed. - FLOODS IN JAVA—-500 LIVES LOST (Received 1 September 5, 5.5 p.m.) LONDON, Sept. 5. The general strike in Sweden has collapsed. Government mediation has been accepted in the dispute which led to the general strike. THE WAIPARA—BERTHED AT THE WHARF. (Received September 6, 12.30 a.m.) BRISBANE, Sept. 5. The authorities agreed to allow the Waipara to enter the harbor, and she is now berthed at the wharf.
