NEW ZEALAND CROSS COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIP.

| Per Press Association.! TIMARU, Sept. 9. The New Zealand cross country championship of five miles was run this afternoon on the Timaru racecourse,

in line weather. There was a small attendance. Otago (Beatson, West, Thompson, and Frew) won, with IB points, the Wellington team and Canterbury team being second. The course was a good sporting one. Simpson (Canterbury) was the first to reach home, but his mates failed to support him in the other places. The inter-club championship was run at the same time, and was won ' l»y Caversham (Beatson, Frew, McLaughlin, McKnight, M. Frye, and F. Frye), 65 points; Wellington second, 79 points; Dunedin (holders of the shield) 94 points, Ashburton 96, South Canterbury 170, Waimato 195. The meeting was very successful. The times of the first throe men home (about 5 miles) were: Simpson him in 2 2-ssee, Beatson 34min 19 2-osec, West 34min 21 2-osec.
