ORCHESTRAL SOCIETY.
TO-NIGHT’S CONCERT.
No pains have been spared to make tbis season’s concert of the Orchestral Society a thorough success, and the final rehearsal was held in the City Band-room last night. The orchestra has been actively rehearsing for twelve weeks now, and the last trial showed every promise of an excellent concert. A prominent feature was the solo or Mr. Giovanni Vita, the first violin. A noticeable advantage of the Gisborne society is the variety in the orchestra, which boasts three violas, two oboes, French horns, and other lesser known instruments. The full band numbers 43. The vocalists, Mrs. J. P. "Wilson, soprano, of "Wellington, and Mr. JRyan, basso, of Auckland, have rehearsed previously. The hon. secretary, Mr. Jas. Chrisp, has looked well after the arrangements, and the seating will consist of comfortable chairs instead of the forms that usually fill a considerable portion of the theatre. Subscribers who have not yet booked their seats are requested to do so as early as possible.
