NAPIER OLD PEOPLE’S HOME

[Ter Press Association.! NAPIER, Sept. 13. Mr. and Mrs. W. Barmerman, of Auckland, have been appointed master and matron of the Hawke’s Bay United Charitable Aid Board’s Old People’s Home, at Parke Island, near Napier. Mr. Bannerman is at present master of the Costley Home, Auckland. A SOLICITOR’S BANKRUPTCY. The public examination in bankruptcy of John James Patterson, of Dannevirke, solicitor, was commenced in the Supreme Court to-day before Mr. Justice Cooper. The bankrupt was examined at length as to various transactions. He said he did not know where Mrs. Patterson was at present, but he would undertake to convey any communication to her 'within seven days. He believed she was in the Auckland province. The examination was adjourned until; to-morrow. SUPREME COURT. NEW PLYMOUTH. Sept. 13. In the case of John Cathro Brown, an elderly man, on a charge of indecent assault on a child ten years old at Hawera, the jury disagreed. A new trial has been ordered for to-morrow. TRADE WITH THE ISLANDS. WELLINGTON, Sept. 13. Mr. J. Graham Gow, Trade Commissioner, leaves Wellington by the Hauroto on Friday for Rarotonga and Tahiti to inquire into the possibilities of trade in view of the establishment of the Government subsidised steam service now running between Wellington and the Islands. TRAFALGAR- DAY CELEBRATION. CHRISTCHURCH, Sept. 13. The committee of the Canterbury Branch of the Navy League decided to celebrate Trafalgar Day (October 21st) by decorating Victoria Square, and by placing wreaths on the statue of Queen Victoria. It is also proposed to have an entertainment at night, at which patriotic songs and naval pictures will be given.
