GOLF.

NEW ZEALAND CHAMPIONSHIP TOURNAMENT.

[Ter Press Association.! AUCKLAND, Sept. 16. The w'eather held good for the fourth day’s play of the New Zealand golf championship. There was nothing particularly exciting in the matches decided. ‘ The programme consisted of the second round of the match play for the New Zealand amateur championship, the semi-final -* of the professional match, and the foursomes bogey handicap. . •' " ' ■' ‘ '' ' ' r The winners of the amateur championship round were fairly well defined before the players went out, and as expected no great surprises were recorded. The games did not attract much attention. The most interesting match was that between J. C. Bidwill and Colonel Tuson. The fortunes of play alternated in this match. Colonel Tuson was up going out, but at the 14th hole Bidwill was 2 up. Colonel Tuson won the next two, and the game was all square at the 16th hole. Bidwill won the next two, thus winning the match by 2 up. Another close game was that between Col beck and Nettleton. The latter was two up with four holes to go, but lost them in succession, and was thus beaten by two up. A. Duncan was putting up a fine round when he beat Sams this morning. He went out in 39, three strokes better than the score, and did six holes of the home journey in 24, seven better than bogey. On several

occasions this week he has done the last three in 13, so that there was a probability that he could have put up a 76 round.

Harold defeated Holmes at the 18th hole by a putt. The professional matches excited very little interest. F. G. Hood beating D. Hood by 3 up and 1 to play, and J. Clements beating G. Martin by 5 up and 4to play. Clements and F. G. Hood- will meet in the final offthe professional match on Saturday morning. The foursomes bogey handicap was won by Denny and Forbes, of Dunedin, from a handicap of 7, A. Duncan second with 2 up on bogey from plus 3 handicap. Sutton (Waitemata) and Thomson (Taranaki) were third with. 1 tip on bogey with a 10 handicap.
