GOLF.
LADIES’ COMPETITION. A driving and approaching competition for ladies took place at the golf links yesterday afternoon. In the driving competition Miss Sweet was declares! the winner, with Miss E. Coleman and Mrs. Traill second and third respectively. The approaching competition was won by Miss deLautour, Miss Coleman and Mrs. Bull tying for second place. Messrs Hei and Chirnside officiated as judges. NAPIER GOLF TOURNAMENT. (Per Press Association.! NAPIER, Sept. 22. The Napier Golf Club’s annual tournament opened to-day on the Waiohika links. There were a few showers in the morning, but for most of the day ideal golfing weather prevailed. The handicap bogey match was played in the morning, and was won bv W. G. Wood (Napier) 1 up, Captain Gathorne Hardy (Manawatu), P. S. McLean, C. D. Kennedy. A. Duncan (Wellington), G. F. Thor burn and Hapi Tareha .were second, all 2 down. . In the afternoon the qualifving round of 18 holes for the Hawke s Bay
championship was played, and the following 16 players were left in: B. B. Wood (Christchurch), P. H. Tomoana, Major Gordon, H. J. Smith, Hapi Tareha, H. Ivawhi, W. T. Peacocke, Kurepo Tareha, A. Duncan (Wellington), E. D. O’Rourke (Auckland), Col. Nelson (Palmerston North), A. Strang (Palmerston North), S. M. Palmer (Gisborne), Wi Karanema, G. N. Pharassyn, and G. F. Tliorburn. _ . The first round of the championship will be played to-morrow morning.
