THE NORTH POLE

CABLE NEWS.

COMMANDER PEARY EXASPERATED. United Piucbn Ansi-ciation—Copyright NEW YORK, Sept. 24. Commander Peary is so exasperated at Dr. Cook’s welcome that he announces that he will not accept public honors nor attempt to controvert Dr Cook’s claim. He will remain in seclusion at his summer home at Eagle Island, Maine, until scientists have examined all the records. Dr Cook’s frankness made an excellent impression in New York. Commander Peary’s abusive messages and jealousy have irritated the public. He is blamed for refusing to allow Captain Bartlett to accompany him over the last 100, miles because Captain Bartlett is an Englishman. He admits that Captain Bartlett did all the rough work.
