In the race for the sculling championship of Australia, Pearce beat Day by half-a-length. Pearce was best away and was never overhauled though Day, who rowed a splendid and plucky race, kept him moving, and several times got on close terms, pressing the champion in. the last half-mile. The finish was exciting. A hundred yards from home Pearce was leading by about three lengths, and suddenly momentarily stopped owing to something going wrong with his left arm. Day was almost level before Pearce again got going. The actual*' wm was only by half-a-length. Time, 26min lsee.
