The “Daily Telegraph” states that Sir Joseph Ward’s exposition of the new naval arrangement shows that he has courageously followed the lines of an Empire naval policy. Referring to Australia’s locally-controlled force, the paper'says, “A nice figure any such little squadron would cut against any Power that could break through the British navy.”

INVERCARGILL, Oct. 1. The executive of the Southland branch of the Navy League this afternoon passed a resolution congratulating tho Prime Minister on the satisfactory arrangements made on behalf of New Zealand at tho recent Imperial Defenco Conference.
