GISBORNE CLUB. The green of the Gisborne Bowling Club showed gleatly improved form on Saturday afternoon, and played much more '“true,” than on the opening dayi The muster of members was good for a Saturday, and some decidedly interesting play took place. The results of. the principal games were as follows: ~ • , ~ _ . Maher, Paltridge, Ambridge, Greig (skip) 17, beat L. T. Brown, Wootton, Dodd, Witty (skip) 16. The score m this game indicates its character. .The play was remarkably even throughout, and Greig won with his second bowl on the last head, by drawing a second shot when Witty was lying three. O’Meara, Wilson, Mackintosh, Ponsford (skip)’ 21, beat Zachariah, Pavitt, W. Pettie, Bright (skip) 19. This gam© also was very evenly contested. The scores were equal, 19 all, on the 21st head. An additional head was played, but was made a “dead head” and Ponsford won the game by scoring a couple on the second extra head. Entries for the handicap fours and handicap singles are coming in satisfactorily. The entries for these- two competitions are. to close on Saturday next. TURANGANUI CLUB. Though the sky was overcast on Saturday afternoon, after the heavy downpour of the early morning, members of the Turanganui Bowling Club to the strength of three rinks gathered on the green to partake of their favored pastime. As was to be expected the greens were a trifle heavy, but, nevertheless, played true. Afternoon tea. was furnished by the committee and much enjoyed.: The results of the, match games played were —Douglas .Feathers. — > 11. J. Finn and W. Ratcliffe (skip) 20 beat W. Hav and Ai Sawyer- (skip) 11. —Up to the 9th head the game was an even one, the score being 7 all, but from this point Finn and Ratcliffe .asserted their superiority, winning easily by nine points. —Challenge Walking Stick. ■ H’ J. Finn (7) beat J. D. Jeune (1). —The loser obtained his score on -the first head, his opponent replying with two 2’s and. three singles. Hi Martin (5) beat J- Somervell (4). —This game was the keenest possible,

for the players were on© all on the 2nd head, three all on the 4th head, and four all on the 6th head.' This necessitated -an extra head,,, wherein Martin obtained a single. - _ After the conclusion of play the Match Committee decided in regard to matches unplayed in the first round of the Douglas Feathers, that R. Sheet and W. Bruce forfeit their match to A. Skillicorn and 0. Morse, the former mir not being urepared to play, and likewise H. Martin and W. H. Douglas forfeit to G. Edwards, and P. Hallam, owing to the former pair not being present to play last Thursday, which date, had been suitable for both parties. The committee then drew the second round with the following result: D. J. Barry and M. G. Nasmith junr (skin) v. H. J. Finn and W. Ratcliffe (skip). . , . H. Anderson, and O. F. Lewis (slap) v. AV. Edwards and J. D. Jeune (skip). G. Edwards and P. E. Hallam (slap) v. A. Skillicorn and C. Morse (slap). In regard to unplayed matches in the first round of the Challenge Walking Stick, the Match Committee resolved as follows: That both players in the W. Edwards v. W .Bruce gam© be struck out, owing to non-attendance at the green; that A. Sawyer bo allowed to forfeit his game to W. H. Douglas; and that D. J. Barry and W. J. P. 'laudin forfeit their,, games: respectively to W. Hay and J. Colley, owing to non-attendance. The second round in this competition was then drawn as follows: J. CoTley v. H. J. Finn M. A. Keill v. AY. Hav AV. Ratcliff© v. H. Martin R. Skeet v. A. Skillicorn E. Lewis v. G. Ed av arris AY. H. Douglas y. P. E. Hallam. The Match Committee resolved that the second rounds in both the above competitions be played by Thursday, November 4th, or forfeited. The Match Committee further resolved to take entries for the Bennett Cup. and the date* of closing was fixed for Thursday, November 11th.
