THE ASSASSIN ARRESTED. Om'rKD Pit ices Association—Covykight. SEOUL, Oct. 26. Prince Ito was visiting Harbin to negotiate with M. Kckovsteff respecting the Manchurian railway. He had just left the railway carriage and was walking with Kokovsteff and several Russian officers past the guard of. honor, when an assassin fired several shots from behind, hitting Prince Ito thrice, and wounding M: Tanka, manager of the South Manchurian railway, and M. ICawakani, Japanese Con-sul-General, seriously, and another official slightly. The assassin was arrested. He stated he wanted to avenge his country. It is believed the assassination is the outcome of an organised plot. Three suspected Koreans were arrested yesterday. THE ASSASSIN’S CONFESSION. (Received October 27, 10.35 p.m.) SEOUL, October 27. The three arrested Koreans confess that they came for the purpose' of ar-, ranging Priyrce Ito’s assassination. The murderer stated that Prince Ito, while in Korea, had several persons closely connected with himself executed. Prince Ito died in 20 minutes after he was wounded. Within three hours the body was started on its way to Japan. The Japanese received the news with calmness. The assassination was not the result of any modifications of the Government’s policy of conciliation in Korea. The Russian Government is aghast at the murder, and the hope has been expressed that it will not compromise the friendly understanding • which Prince Ito came to Manchuria to bring about.
