WOMENS GUILD.

MONTHLY MEETING

The monthly meeting of the Cook County Women’s Guild was held in Townley’s Hail yesterday afternoon. Airs. Townley presided, and a large number of members were present. Correspondence was dealt with from the City Band, Catholic Club, and the Poverty Bay Cricket Association, and tho report of the matron of the Children’s Home, which showed that there were ten permanent and two day children in the Home, was received. The report on the result of the Maternity Home Bazaar was not available, but will be ready next week. It was announced that the guessing competition at the Bazaar had resulted as follows: In. the iar of peas there were 1436, and Air. J. Shepperd, who. guessed 1480, secures the prize, an oil painting. In the lollie bottle there were 155 lollies, and Air. Jeunc, with a guess of 151, secures the'prize, a doll. Dr. Hastings Young, who has consented to give four lectures in the Masonic Hall during November, forwarded the titles of the lectures as follows: Lecture I.—Motherhood, its duties and responsibilities; the comparison of human, milk and cow’s milk; the theory of humanised milk as infants’ fowl; questions answered.. Lecture 11. Humanised milk explained; humanised milk practical preparation; questions answered. Lecture 111. —Humanised milk prepared by various ladies of the audience; instructions regarding artificial feeding; , questions answered. Lecture IV.—The care of the baby in health and disease* The first lecture will be given on Friday next, and the. others on the following. Fridays in November. In connection with the Children’s Home, the committee decided that the visiting days should be Tuesdays and Fridays, from 2 to 4 p.m. To-day representatives of the Women’s Guild are to pay a' visit to the railway construction works with the object of soliciting contributions on behalf of the Maternity Home.
