Hie suffragettes state that the fluid used at Bermondsey was an alkaline solution, pryrogallol, not a corrosive. ■ A SUFFRAGIST RELEASED. LONDON, Oct, 29. Mr Herbert Gladstone, Home Secretary, has ordered the release from Strangways Gaol, Manchester, of the suffragette who was drenched for an hour with a - hose, which the warders inserted in the window, after she had barricaded her cell with her plank bed. The visiting committee had authorised the use of the hose. Mr Iveir Hardie, in the House of Commons, demanded the committee s suspension.
