AN INTERNAL DISPUTE

In connection with the dispute between two bodies in the second division of the railway service, the local branch of the Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants passed a resolution on Satindny night, considering the formation of another society uncalled for and detrimental to the welfare of railway men; also protesting emphatically against any alteration in the Arbitration Act as it affects railway men. The local branch of the Drivers’, Firemen s, adn Cleaners’ Association passed a resolution strongly condemning what it terms the dog-in-the-manger resolutions passed by the Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants, that body not bem" representative of the locomotive mem Claiming that 80 to 90 per cent, of the latter are in the association, they justify its action to obtain separate recognition, and stand hrm to their own council as the only one ni which they have confidence. The Wellington branch of the Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants passed a resolution unanimously protesting against any alteration in the Arbitration Act in the direction of recognising the Drivers’ and Firemen s Association. >* 1 GREYMOUTH, Nov. 1. The local branch of the Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants passed the following resolution —That the meeting protests against altering the clause referring to our society m the Conciliation and Arbitration Act, as such action would be detrimental to the society and railway men generally. DUNEDIN, Nov. 1. The Otago Branch of the Amalgamated Railway Servants’ .Society is adverse to any amendment of the Arbitration Act or any other Railway Act in the direction of extending official recognition to any other railway labor organisation than the Officers Institute and Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants.
