PARNELL’S FREE LIBRARY.

MR. CARNEGIE CONSIDERS THE PLANS TOO AMBITIOUS.

IPeh Press Association.! AUCKLAND, Nov. 1. Apparently Mr. Carnegie is of opinion that Parnell is too ambitious, as far as tlie erection of the free library, for which it is proposed ho shall find the funds, is concerned. Last August plans of a building to cost £SOOO were sent to him, At to-night’s meeting of the local Council a letter was received from Mr. Carnegie’s private secretary, expressing the opinion that it should not take more than half of £SOOO to erect a suitable free public library for a' place with 5700 inhabitants. He suggested' .less elaborate plans, saying that a building in good taste and with adequate accommodation ought to be put up for just half the. sum that Parnell wanted Mr. Carnegie to provide.
