ACCLIMATISATION CONFERENCE. [Pick Press Association.) • WELLINGTON. Nov. 5., At the Acclimatisation Conference to-day a resolution was passed urging societies to contribute according to their means to the support of the marine hatchery at Portobello. A letter was read from Mr Hardcastle objecting to the provision insisting on fixed metal tags to be. attached to stag's heads, which the writer held to be a needless disfigurement. The matter was referred to the council of the Wellington society to deal with. Tlie conference has concluded.

ARBITRATION COURT. At the Arbitration Court, Mr. Pryor, on behalf of the Wellington Builders’ and Contractors’ Industrial Union of Employers, applied for an order declaring . the following branches of the building trades to be related to one another : Carpentering and joinery, bricklaying, stonemasonry, painting, decorating and glazing, plastering, plumbing, electric fittings, building trades’ laboring, and builders’ carting. His Honor said he could not see what good it would do. The Court was not prepared to make any experiments just now. It would have been better if employers had taken a little more interest in awards, and asked for uniformity, as there would have been no difficulty in getting it. BLENHEIM BAND CONTEST. BLENHEIM, Nov. 5. The following are the results of the Blenheim Band contest yesterday : Euphoniums, S. Wheatley (Westport) 70, Cummings (Petone) 54; soprano cornets, Stevenson (Blenheim Hibernian) 69, L. Neighbors (Westport) 67, P. Robinson (Nelson) 65; trombone trios, Westport 82, Blenheim Garrison 79; waltz (own choice), 'Westport Garrison 82, Blenheim Garrison. 80, Nelson Citizens 73. In solos the maximum points are 80, and in trios, quartettes, and selections 100. MOSGIEL WOOLLEN COMPANY.

DUNEDIN, Nov. 5. The Mosgiel Woollen Company’s report shows a balance on tjie year’s work of £8096, of which £2500 has been set apart for depreciation, leaving £5596 for distribution as a dividend at the rate of 5} per cent, per annum, absorbing £4509. It is recommended that £lO6 be carried forward. A LIBRARY BURNED. The Athenaeum Hall and Public Library at Clinton were destroyed by fire between 5 and 6 p.m. on Wednesday. There had been no- fire in the building that day, and incendiarism is suspected. Some band instruments and the books in the library were completely destroyed. It is understood that the building was insured for £3OO in the State office, and the .library for £3O in the New Zealand office. OBITUARY.

Mr. George Wright, the well-known representative of Butler Bros., died this morning.
