STEINHEIL MURDER CASE.
A CHIVALROUS CONFESSION
PROVED FALSE
United Punas Association —Copyright LONDON, Nov. 5.
In the course of the trial of Madame Steinheil a sensation was caused by a youth coming forward with a confession that he participated in the murder. When the Judge examined the youth’s .story he found it was full of inconsistencies. The youth ultimately declared that he believed Madame Steinheil innocent, and had chivalrously concocted the confession to save- her life.
(Received November 8, 1.10 a.m.) PARIS, Nov. 7
There were many violent scenes at the Steinheil trial, through the Judge brow-heating the prisoner as though he were the prosecutor. A constant battle raged between him and the prisoner, whose dramatic hysteria vas remarkable, even for France.
[Madame Steinheil is accused of complicity in the murder of her husband, M. Adolph Steinheil; and her mother, Madame Japy, who were found strangled at M. Steinheil’s residence on May 31st last year.]
