F Per Press Association.! ’ AUCKLAND, Nov. 8, The Auckland Cler'lm’ IndusHial Union (the- first of its kind m New Zealand) has been registered with a membership of about 400. Church to form similar unions m Cnristcnmci and Napier. The union is designed to embrace all classes of clerical workers, and after it has gained strength an application will be made to the. A ni^f w tion Court for an award. It is Ruder stod that- preference, for unionists wU 1 be asked for, and- that tlm Court will be requested to make no distinction Detween* the sexes ill awarding wages. The unionists allege that the increased employment of girls as ledger clerks has lowered men’s wages, and think that- iL.the.same wages had to be paid to both sexes men would get the preference. It is stated that, the average wages of junior clerks in Auckland are £1 5s to £1 15s, and of ledger clerics £2 to £2 10s.
