CANTERBURY v. OTAGO

The lawn tennis match Canterbury v. Otago was played here to-day, and resulted -in a win for the former by ten matches to eight, with one game tinfinished. The weather wa,s fine, with a strong tricky wind until the last games were in progress, when a heavy shower fell. Some very good play was witnessed, and several of the finishes were very close. The following are the results, the names of the Canterbury players being given first: Ladies Singles. —Miss Goodman lost to Miss Campbell, 3—9; Mrs. Ballantyne lost to Miss Marks, 7—B; Mrs. Berry heat Miss Hislop, 9 —B; Mrs. Angus beat Miss Bauciiop, 9—6; Mrs. Ballantyne injured her ankle and retired. Ladies’ Doubles.—Miss Goodman and Mrs. Berry 'lost to Misses Campbell and Marks. 5—9; Mesdames Ballantyne and Angus beat Misses Hislop and Bauchop, 9 —2. Combined Doubles. —Olliver and Miss Goodman lost to White and Miss Campbell, 3—6, 2—6; Gosse and' Mrs. Berry lost to Brown and Miss Marks, 24—8; Borrows and Mrs. Aligns beat Sinclair and Miss Bauchop, 6—4, 4—6, 6—2; Kiver and Mrs. Ballantyne; beat Braithwaite and Miss Hislop, 6 3, 6—2. Men’s Doubles—Gosse and Kiver lost, to White and Brown, 5 —6, 2 —6; Olliver and Bonnington beat Sinclair nad Braithwaite, 5—6, 6 —4, 6 —2; Borrows and Pearse lost to Bundle and Ewen, 4 —6, 5—6. .Men’s Singles.—Olliver beat White, 6 —4, 6—3; Gosse beat Brown, 6—4, 5 —g ; Q —s; Bonnington beat Braithwaite, 6—5, 6—3; Borrows lost to Bundle, 6—5, 5—6, 4—6; Pearse beat Ewan, 6—4, 4—6, ,6—4; Kiv?r v. Sinclair, 3—6, 6 —o. In the last set Sinclair was leading by 3 —2 when rain stopped the play.
