A TRAVELLER FINED.
THEFT OF PAPER
[Per Press Association.] WELLINGTON, Nov. 13. traveller named. John M. Lamg appeared in the Magistrate’s Court before Mr. W. G, Riddell, S.M on aprivate prosecution. He was charged with (1) committing theft on or about the 13th August of a bale of printing inner, valued at» £2 3s, t>he property of Gordan and Gotch, wholesale stationers ; and (2) committing theft on or about the Ist October of another bale of paper, valued at £3 10s 6d, also belonging to Gordon and Gotch. Defendant pleaded guilty. Mr. Weston informed the Court that defendant was an emplovec of the firm of Messrs Gordon and Gotch. There had been a long series of thefts of paper, he alleged, extending over a period of about three years, and' running into £6O or £7O- - if they Jiad desired, could have made other allegations against the defendant, but it was difficult, he said, in a large firm to trace exactly all the thefts. It was only when stocktaking til at the Toss was discovered. A fine of £lO was imposed for each offence, with costs (6s). Defendant was allowed 24 hours in which to pay.
