THE AVINNERS EVIDENCE
A copy of the evidence taken at Auckland in connection with the claim of Robert Peterson to recover £412 stake money from Arthur Turtloy AVebb, arrived in Gisborne on Saturday. Alichael Joseph Griffen, who was.the winner of the race with Sexton over which the dispute arose said the £412 wagered was his own money. Burrows was stake holder and the witness appointed Webb to draw the money in the event of his winning. AVebb got none of the money. Air Burnard: AY here did you get tlie money for the wager from?—That’s mv business. 'The witness later on said he received £824 after the race. Air Burnard: AA here is that money HO ‘ w ?_l won’t tell you. Griffen added that he had no money now. He had lost £2OO at a recent race meeting and had got married since liis match with Sexton.
