MONTHLY AND ANNUAL MEETING
The monthly meeting of the AA aiapu County Council-was, held at AAaipiro Bay on Fridav. There were present: Crs. T. S. Williams (chairman), A. B. Williams, T. E. Sherwood. J. Ivnox,. Ootterill, It. K. Murphy, K. S. AYilliains, and deLautour. Air. Sinclair, Tologa Bay, wrote stating he would supply bricks for the roadman's cottage—lt was decided to put iii an iron chimney. The Counties’ Association wrote re tlie JiOans to Local Bodies Bill. It was decided to reply stating that the Council thought the clauses of Part 2 or the present Act should be retained wJien the new Bill was brought in. Hare Hautapu forwarded the ground plan of a slau^hterllouse, ami applied for a license.—Granted. . Tlie Sanitary Inspector's and Engineer’s reports were read, and acting on tlie Engineeer’s report it was decided that one mile of formation should be done at Poroporo _ Valley. It was also decided — , That the track, to Alatakana be put in hand. 'That necessary work on Kahama luparnn road he gone on with as soon as possible. That a groyne be constructed to protect Awatere Road. That Holt’s track be generally repaired. That the avenue on Tuakau Road, be made passable for ft dray. That owners of small grazing runs be asked to contribute a sum equal to the difference between tlie rates now paid and the rates that would be paid by them if rated at their'proper valuation, so ns to bring the property into lino with other properties, and that the difference in each case be pointed out. That about a quarter of a mile of road formation and metalling be done on the main county road from Murphy s letter box onward. That tenders be called for metalling the worst places on Henderson’s Road when Trumpor’s-.contract is finished. That necessary dog collars be ordered. That protective works should be done on the Maknrika Road at the river, and that the surfaceman be retained on the Takapn.ii-Ihungia-Af.ata road. That the Chairman, Crs. A. B. Williams, Sherwood and the Engineer confer and report to the Council on the matter of raising a loan for metalling the whole of the main county road. A .few minor resolutions were also carried, and. the meeting adjourned after passing accounts amounting to £959. ’ » • r „ , The annual meeting then followed, all the members being present. .On the motion of Cr. Murphy, seconded by Ci. Sherwood, Cr. K. S. Williams was elected chairman of the ensuing year. The Council then went into committee- fdr the purpose of electing officers, and on resuming it was notified that Mr. O’Ryan had been appointed secretary", treasurer, and engineer, fo-r a period of three months at the same salary, and after that at a fixed salary. It was also pointed out that he would not be required to act as overseer of road works. Other officers elected were: Air Durrant clerk, and Air. J. A. Perry sanitary inspector. In addition it was decided that the retiring members of the Hospital Board he re-appointed and that Mr. Gilmour act as road overseer, subject to the approval of the chairman. .
