A conference of sawmillcrs was held here last week, and it- is now reported that the sawmilling industry in Wellington, Hawke’s Ray. and Tarana'Kt,,y, districts is in a. very bad condition. It> is stated that there are very few orders, and great difficulty is experienced y. in marketing sawn timber, resulting,in all the yards being heavily overstocked. It is considered that most, if not all. the mills will close down.in the course of a few days for the Christmas holi-;Ay-days. This means about six weeks* compulsory holidays for those engaged A: in the industry.
