RESULT OF THE GOVERNMENT’S CIRCULAR.'

Further evidence of the reticence imposed upon Government servants by a recent circular by the Cabinet was found in the refusal by the local Registrar to supply details of vital statistics, which hitherto have always been open to the press, and are now only available in the Registrar-General’s returns, when months have-elapsed. A “Herald” reporter visiting hlie< Momaliaki State farm yesterday to obtain information concerning experimental work carried on, and likely to be of interest to farmers and others, was also refused information, on account of the circular. AN EXPLANATION. WELLINGTON, Dec. 1. In reference to the Wanganui telegram re the reticence of the Registrar regarding local vital statistics, inquiries by a “Post” reporter show that instructions had been issued by the Re-gistrar-General’s office to the various district registrars to supply .the papers with these statistics each month. The Wanganui registrar apparently had not received the instructions when the request was .made to him. A
